As category partners of the Sport Industry Group Cutting Edge Sport award, PT SportSuite CEO Rich Cheary celebrates those companies who embraced innovation to make the shortlist – first up … Catapult Sports.

We at PT SportSuite are pleased to play a role in highlighting those organisations that share our passion for innovation and challenging the status quo within the sports industry.

That’s exactly what we’ve set out to do by signing on as category partners at the Sport Industry Awards and more specifically, sponsors of the Cutting Edge awards category.

All six nominees are deserving of this recognition, having challenged conventional thinking to redefine an area of sport that pushes the athletes’ performance and the fan experience forward.

Watch this space as I use this platform over the next few weeks to shine a light on their efforts as we head towards the Awards evening on 3 September.

When it comes to business, I’ve always believed those who consistently strive for improvement, day-in and day-out, will be rewarded in the long run. As a keen runner and sports fan, I see many parallels between business and sport, where those marginal gains often mean the difference between success and failure.

In the world of professional sport it’s no different. Sports science and the monitoring of athletic performance has become an increasingly vital battleground as professional sports organisations seek the data which can mean the difference between those that win and those who finish at the back of the pack.

Wearable technology and the work of companies like Catapult Sports means sports scientists and those responsible for squeezing every bit of performance out of their athletes now have a treasure trove of data at their disposal.

Catapult have been a leader in this space for over a decade, providing wearable technology and video analysis software to thousands of professional sports teams across multiple sporting codes.

Their latest release, the Catapult Vector, which earned them a deserving nomination in this Cutting Edge Sport category, solves a real-world problem as one of the key issues faced by sports scientists at professional sports teams is having to switch between different devices when playing in indoor and outdoor environments.

Catapult has solved this issue by combining advanced GNSS (global navigation satellite system) and LPS (local positioning system) into their new Vector device, meaning athletes can now wear one monitoring device no matter what environment they’re in.

By daring to be different, Catapult have set themselves apart as true innovators in their industry

By daring to be different, Catapult have set themselves apart as true innovators in their industry, something our PT SportSuite team are striving to do every day with our own digital platform solutions.

Congratulations to CEO Will Lopes, CTO Rick Wingfield and the rest of the Catapult team for your SIA shortlisting. I look forward to meeting you on Awards night.
