Digitally Accelerating PSA – with CTO Clinton Bosch

PT SportSuite and Professional Squash Association (PSA) have partnered to establish an entire ecosystem of platforms across the sports association’s digital landscape.

Last week we heard from COO Sally Arnold. Now it’s the turn of PT SportSuite co-founder and CTO, Clinton Bosch to give us further insight into this ambitious programme.

MY TEAM LOOK AFTER THE OVERALL ARCHITECTURE …
of all the systems making up PSA’s new ecosystem. This includes provisioning the actual infrastructure that the systems will be running on; coding integrations with 3rd party vendors like payment gateways and stats providers, as well as designing and implementing workflows for video processing and distribution.

THE ENTIRE TECHNOLOGY STACK IS MADE UP OF MANY DIFFERENT PARTS …

all of which are hosted on the AWS suite of Platform-as-a-Service products. We make use of virtual servers and databases for the hosting of the various platforms. We also rely heavily on serverless technology [AWS lambdas] when it comes to almost all integration points – like integrating with payment gateways, stats providers, video processing, image handling, etc. This gives us the ‘infinite’ scalability we need through parallel processing. We make use of the AWS Elemental suite of products for our video [VOD and live] offerings.

THE PROJECT REQUIRES A NUMBER OF THIRD-PARTY TEAMS TO WORK CLOSELY TOGETHER …
which is a challenge. The overall architecture needs a lot of integrations with the likes of single sign-on providers, payment gateways, as well as the help of old service providers for data migrations. This is also one of the first individual athlete brands we’ve taken on, as opposed to our team- and league-based implementations, so our team had some fun re-thinking the functionality and modules that our various offerings consist of to cater for athlete-oriented sports.

FOR A GLOBAL ASSOCIATION WITH SO MANY DIFFERENT STAKEHOLDERS …
scalability is vital … The PT ecosystem was always architected with this in mind, meaning that when the time comes, our modular approach will allow us to scale the PSA ecosystem across the various national federations, tournaments, sponsors and commercial partners with relative ease, which comes with an obvious cost saving and workflow benefit for PSA.

THIS PROJECT ENCOMPASSES JUST ABOUT ALL OF PT’S DIGITAL PRODUCTS …
which can all exist in isolation, but do obviously integrate well with one another. This is probably the project that aims to utilize all of the products in the suite instead of just a handful – which will see the true benefit and power of the ecosystem realised like it never has been before.
